Getting Started with RunAlexDB
RunAlexDB ships as a single static binary, same as Runbound, and is signed with the same minisign key.
1. Verify what you were given
Section titled “1. Verify what you were given”minisign -Vm runalexdb-x86_64-linux-gnu -P RWSBM9HzDiZpfCD82uTnkeP1Ui30LfWE96C8EtFyI4/WVyLAVxpLzYy/minisign -Vm SHA256SUMS -P RWSBM9HzDiZpfCD82uTnkeP1Ui30LfWE96C8EtFyI4/WVyLAVxpLzYy/sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing2. Minimal configuration
Section titled “2. Minimal configuration”RunAlexDB is configured with a TOML file. A minimal setup with persistence enabled:
mysql_port = 3306webui_port = 8306
[auth]root_password = "change-me"
[persistence]enabled = truedir = "/var/lib/runalexdb/wal"Change root_password before exposing mysql_port beyond localhost — there is no default
password shipped for a reason. The admin console (webui_port) logs in with the same MySQL
users as the wire protocol, root included — no separate account to set up.
3. Run it
Section titled “3. Run it”Run it under systemd rather than an ad hoc process, the same way as Runbound:
chmod +x runalexdb-x86_64-linux-gnusudo mv runalexdb-x86_64-linux-gnu /usr/local/bin/runalexdbsudo systemctl enable --now runalexdb4. Connect
Section titled “4. Connect”Any MySQL-protocol client works, since RunAlexDB speaks the wire protocol directly:
mysql -h 127.0.0.1 -P 3306 -u root -pThe admin console is served on webui_port — it gives you a SQL runner (with query plan
inspection), live server metrics, and role-aware access based on the account you log in with.
See the Configuration Reference for replication, WAL tuning,
and the full [auth]/[persistence] option set.
